Saint Valentine was exactly that...a Saint. who was martyred by the Roman Emperor Claudius because he tried to convert Claudius to Christianity. The Emperor made a law that outlawed marriage for young men, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers. The priest Valentine, however, secretly performed marriage ceremonies for young men. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine arrested and thrown in jail.
Of course American Greetings has their own story of how Vday came to be...including the importance of exchanging Valentines. Over the centuries Valetine's day has become, in my opinion, a great money making scheme; however good intentioned it is:)
I love my dear husband of course, and he bought me gorgeous roses (which I adamantly asked him not to) took me to dinner and dessert and gave me a massage worthy of a spa!
I don't hate Valentine's Day, I just would rather my husband surprise me with flowers on a random day than on a subscribed day. He does so well to take care of me and give me everything I want, so I of course thought of what to give him to show the world I love him more than any other person...and to show that I bought him these:

I think that Valentine's Day is what you make it out to be. It's almost like an anniversary celebration. True, it's always fun to be surprised on a random day by your hubby, but I do really enjoy Valentine's Day too. Instead of just a gift exchange, it's more like a day to just celebrate love in general. I foresee fun V-day family activities making valentines for each other and having it become just a really happy day.
but isn't that what an anniversary is for? to celebrate your love, relationship, and marriage? As a kid giving a valentine to everyone was obligatory, which to me always defeated the whole exchange process since you knew everyone had to give you a Valentine...I think as a family we should never wait for a special day to express our love for each other but it be continual

How fun! Did you guys buy a house up there or did someones job move you up there? My husband is from sandy, its a fun area up there.
i kind of feel the same way you do about valentines. we do celebriate it but it always seems a little wierd/forced! although i did love that it was on a sunday this year it was so nice and relaxing. Mik got me flowers and a massage gift certificate (apparantally he and tyler have the same thought process) and i got him some romantic.....pants! yes pants! he needed some new jeans so that is what he got! a little similar to shoes...!
I agree. Chase was going to get my flowers and I told him I would much rather have me get flowers when Im not expecting it and have it actually mean something rather than feeling like he has to get me something for valentines day. We still had a fabulous day together and that means so much more than flowers
