Wallace Falls

This weekend was SO much fun. Need I repeat how much I LOVE the Pacific NORTHWEST! Friday night we went to a ward picnic at the beautiful Farrel McWhirter Park. Then we checked out early with our friends the Moulton's to go to Beaver Lake. It was a blast jumping on the floating trampoline, riding a bike off the dock, and discovering a secret passage to another lake! I have never lived near so much warm water! We love it. After a small little bonfire with roasted marshmellows, we left. Saturday morning we got up and set out for Wallace Falls State Park. Here are our pics:

I love Harry Potter

Last night my wonderful husband accompanied me to see Harry Potter. I love it! I really loved it. I know a lot of people don't like watching movies of books, but, my view is that almost all movies are after books anyway so you might as well keep them separate and love them both! Lots of times I like the books better, but because I love a good movie I am usually not disappointed. This was not an exception either. I loved it! I think it is my favorite of the HP movies. I really don't know if that's because I'm resurrecting the HP fanatic in me or because it really was the best. I just loved how they made the characters change. It was interesting though because there wasn't as much action as I imagined, however, I will see it many times over for sure:)

Our Weekend

We had a blast this weekend, but unfortunately, only one picture to show from it! Here it is:)
Yes, those are our legs and that is the beach...of Lake Sammamish. We have been planning on doing so many fun adventures while we're here in the great Pac West, but by the time it gets to Saturday we are so dang worn out from the busy week that we want to just relax and get stuff done we couldn't during the week. (I usually have sewing to do). Well, this weekend we decided to do our relaxing in our swim suits. It was soo fun to lay out on the beach and then swim in the WARM water. We stayed for a couple hours and should have remembered sunscreen. I didn't burn, but Ty did. Here's an after picture of his so very red bellyPoor guy. Stomach hasn't seen the sun in a couple years. But, we are going to go out somewhere next weekend too! I can't believe how time flies and we will be done here too soon. I love living here. It is so green and beautiful, serene and picturesque too.

After the beach we headed straight down to Portland to visit Ty's old roommate, Jeff Chambers. He flew in to visit his family from New York and so we drove the 3 hours to see him. We had this great picnic right on the river waterfront and watched this guy in the park do Tai Chi (actually we assume it was that because he was shirtless and was waving his arms like a lion tamer) Then we went to church Sunday with them and then drove home. It is still a beautiful 75 degrees and cloudless...What a perfect weekend!

our 4th of July

Our fourth of July was full of family fun...only not our family! We spent it with some families we met that day and ended up having a blast! Since neither Ty nor I really know anyone up here, we were blessed to have a random connection to my cousin's old boyfriend's parents. (just try and figure that one out) They're both on missions right now and hence not dating. They heard we were moving up here and invited us for their 4th of July BBQ in Kirkland. We brought a Salmon to grill from our trip to Alaska and a salad to share. Everything was amazingly yummy. Even though we didn't know anyone it was fun to share stories and reminisce with all the now empty nesters:) After a BBQ we drove over to a neighbor's house on the Lake to watch the fireworks.

all the boats on Lake Washington to watch the fireworks
yay!
we were laying down watching them for this one...

It took so long afterwards to get back home that we decided not to do any fireworks of our own...and we actually didn't buy any because most of King County has outlawed fireworks. Where we actually live is unincorporated so we could've done some if we wanted, but I was just fine letting other people blow them up!

It was our first 4th being together! Last 4th of July we were engaged and I was in Colorado and Ty was in Utah! We were glad that we were able to spend it together, even though we wished we were with our families.

Confession

I just ate one of those yummy Marie Callendar Pot Pies...They contain exactly 1020 calories!!! I can't believe I just ate more than half my calorie allowance in one sitting!!!

LONG LIVE CALIFORNIA

I just got back this morning from spending the beginning of the week with some old college roommates in LA! Julie has been living in Culver City while her husband Mac was attending UCLA law school. My friend Grace has been in Mesa, AZ for the past couple years after graduating BYU with her husband Jeff. Since Ty had training this week in San Jose, I thought it would be perfect for girl time! It was all Grace's idea because her husband decided to go off on a brocation with his old bandmates in DC and leave Grace all alone. She wanted me to go to LA with her and since Ty was gone, I said, why not? LA is a little sunnier than Seattle:) and there is the beach you can actually lay out on.
I got in Monday morning, later than planned because of a stupid delayed flight on United because there were "low clouds" in San Francisco. That's why jets fly IFR right? Plus, how is it worse than landing in snow storms, which they do ALL the time. My whole experience that day was a reminder how much I hate United Airlines and LOVE Southwest. All the airlines should model Southwest, they are fast, convenient, no hassle, FREE bags, fun staff, etc, etc. Plus, they are actually profiting (I think) and none of the others are(hence the recent bag charge...) But whatever, I got there and we went straight to the beach!

Here's Grace showing off her bike riding skills!

It's about a 6-7 mile trip one way from their apt to the beach, so we took the good old beach cruisers! It was fun and hot!!!

Yay for the beach! Even at 5pm it was nice. It was high tide though so we had to keep moving further and further up the beach.
We tried posing, but it was a little awkward cause we were on this ledge that I was falling off of. The next day we went to the beach pretty much ALL day and of course I got sunburned and so no pics of that day. Wednesday we went to Sony Studios and saw like 3 famous people. Just kidding. Julie has a client that is working on the movie 2012 and invited us to come see her work. I can't believe some people work 6+months on a 30 second (or less) clip of the movie. Not very glamorous. We also learned that the movie previews are created way before any shooting or special effects. That makes for very pressured deadlines on everyone else to get the movie ready for showtime. This movie has already been pushed back!
After Sony we went to this great burger place, The Apple Pan, and then took off for Santa Monica.
Here we are on the Ferris Wheel.!
And finally, our last night, we went to dollar taco night and when we went to use the bathrooms, there was a stall with TWO toilets in it. I just had to document this! I know this might be even weirder, but one of my freaky nightmares is that I have to go to the bathroom REALLY badly, and the only place to go is either an open toilet or a stall with two toilets! Now I know it really could happen in a place like this....AHHHH

I flew home early today on Southwest and it was SOOO much better! Yay for cheaper, better flights. Thanks girls for a Girls Vacation! Here's to next year:)
