Finally

Ok, so we decided to go to Chicago for our friend D-rod and Savanah's wedding and stay with our good friends the Piersons. As luck would have it, about a week before we left we found out our friends the Piersons had to leave Chicago the day we got in for a family emergency. We debated whether or not to go through with our plans because we didn't know where we were going to stay and thought it would be fun to spend the times we weren't doing wedding stuff with our friends. Well, what really made the decision of if we were going to go or not was that the only time we could go was after graduation, but turns out Tyler has to take the GMAT on April 30, which totally ruins those plans. So, we decided to head out there anyway.
We left Wednesday, and I spent the day in Layton judging a high school FCCLA competition (kind of like FBLA or DECA, but different...) and then drove back down to Provo, met up with Ty and his mom took us to the airport. We had a layover in Denver and then were off to Chicago.
We arrived in Chicago-Midway Airport after midnight and our friend Mike picked us up from the airport. As we were driving around he warned us to be careful where we were looking, and not to stare. He explained as we drove that the area surrounding the airport is commonly referred to as the blue light district because there were blue lights flashing every 100 yards or so. The blue lights were police cameras that enabled the police to see if the situation was safe enough to send an officer to. The housing in this area is called "the projects" and is all government subsidized housing. Many of the windows were boarded up, probably because they got shot out and the government didn't want to pay to put more glass in the windows. Anyway, this information will become very important to me later in the week...
Thursday we spent downtown going to some of the places Chicago is famous for: Portillo's Hot Dogs, Sears Tower, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and Millennium Park to see The Bean. Union Train station is also a hub of activity. Mike showed us the ins and outs of commuting by train in a big city. He calls it the running of the bulls--after work when the train arrives at the stop, everyone pushes over each other to the doors and bursts out as soon as they open in a full out sprint to their vehicle--trying to get out of the parking lot before anyone else. We walked to and from the train station.
Friday we were boring and had to do some homework, but we did go to the famous Naperville Outlet Shops and Ty indulged me at two of my favorite stores: Gap and Banana Republic.
Friday night we did something so unconventional for us, we rented 2 movies and watched them both. One right after the other. The first movie we watched was City of Ember--a fun kid's movie that I highly recommend. The latter was the third Mummy--not so much a fan.
Saturday was the wedding. Without going into to too much detail, many things went awry with the planning of everything, but overall the sealing was nice, the Chicago temple is beautiful, and we had a fun time with our good friends the Dutchers and Spat. The one thing I will mention is that Cafeterias in hospitals offer great food for an inexpensive price!!
We went to church Sunday and ironically enough the combined Relief Society/Priesthood lesson was on Emergency Prepardness (given by Krishna, Tyler died when he learned his name). We are the Emergency Prepardness chairs in our ward and got some good ideas for our ward.
The rest of the day we spent driving to and from the airport. We drove to pick up the Dutcher's and drop them and the rental car off at the airport. As I was driving near the projects in a car by myself, I realized, this is scary. To make matters worse there were homeless people accosting drivers for money at each intersection. All I could think of was a story Mike told about his mother in law when she was visiting: out of the blue a guy came up and pounded on her window screaming let me in!! It was intense. We drove back to the Pierson's and then drove back to the airport to pick them up at about 12:15. Our flight left Monday morning at 7:00, so we decided to pull an all nighter and chat. By about 4 am we were past coherentness and we tried to get some sleep before we had to leave by 5:30. I was zonked the rest of the day and our flight got delayed in Denver for 3 hours so it made for a really long day.

proof
There are still nice people in the world. I was walking to my car from the Tanner building on campus and it was snowing really hard. I was unprepared for the unfortunate weather, wearing only a light jacket. I probably looked such a sorry sight because I couldn't see, so I was squinting to look where I was going, going to quickly because I was freezing. Bumbling around carrying my computer and backpack. Through my dismal circumstances, a car pulled over and asked if I needed a ride somewhere! (Tyler wanted to know if it was a guy, and no, it was a couple of girls.)
So, thank you to my unknown helpers.
I didn't take the ride since I was almost to my car by then, but still, it was nice of them to offer!

Something to make up for a disappointing weekend
Last night after dance, my instructor asked if I could stay after class to chat so she could talk to me about something. Immediately I started guessing what it could be, but I had no idea. I waited around for about 20 minutes and then decided to go home. She called me a little bit after and she started asking me if I would want to teach!!!
Connie's starting an after school program with the Challenger Schools here in Utah and needs company students to teach! This is like my dream come true. I have been worrying about what to do next Fall for a job because I'm graduating in April, and this is the perfect solution. It won't be full time, but the pay is actually quite good! Not that I even care about the pay, teaching dance is my dream. I love teaching, especially little kids. Also, I would still be dancing on the company and get experience teaching. Connie is going to give us training too to be better teachers. This will be an awesome experience so no matter where I go I can try to teach dance!
Any one want to take beginning ballet?

Since coming to Brigham Young University four years ago, I have tried different restaurants for dinner and lunch throughout the Wasatch Front.
As a family we decided to try your restaurant after watching Guy Fiere rate your restaurant on the Food Network. This decision was ill-fated and I request modification to your facilities and staff.
On Friday, February 20, my husband and I, and two brother and sister-in-laws with their kids visited your restaurant. When we entered before 6:00 p.m., there was a family ahead of us in line. Although the wait to be seated was relatively short, we waited for our food and waited and waited. During which we were subjected to loud, bad music that completely destroyed any conversations we were having. Not only was there bad music, but also our waiter gave us drinks and then took our order; not once did he come to our table during the hour plus wait.
Once we received our food, we were disappointed that the long wait resulted in good food, but not the excellent or amazing dishes we were ready for after waiting and enduring such a horrible experience. To make matters worse, when we went to pay for this unfortunate meal, we were charged $5.00 to listen to a band we didn’t want to hear without knowing there was going to be a cover charge. When I inquired about the unexplained charge, I was told that everyone knows that at 7:00p.m. when the band starts you get charged. She further explained that they had signs posted around and the waiters always say something. There was not a sign anywhere when we walked in that explained this policy and I was mad.
After being on TV, our expectation was that you would deliver a quality experience. What we had was a sub-par, disappointing, expensive disaster I will never repeat. As we were leaving, disgusted, we found that some people waited an hour before their waiter said you were out of food! A restaurant that wants to continue operating at a profit after being on TV must increase their staff, food, and quality of experience.
In order for me to ever return, I would have to know that my concerns are addressed so as not to repeat such an unacceptable experience.

Massage
For Christmas Tyler gave me a spa package to DeLeon Spa and I got a 60 minute massage today. SOOOO incredible, I loved it. It felt so wonderful and relaxing. I encourage all husbands to get their wives this because it's the best way to relax!!!

I've done the unthinkable
So this weekend I did something completely unlike me...I cut and dyed my hair. I took a dramatic steep and cut about 6 inches off my hair and dyed it black. pitch black. I don't know what I was thinking?? Or maybe I do, I was ready for a change, but I really miss my long hair! It's not like it's even that short, but it is definitely short for me. I don't have the good of a picture, because I want people to see it in person, but I know some of you never see me in person:)

Lost in Thought
Has anyone thought of a really good thing to blog about, and then completely forgot about it?
That just happened to me. In fact, it happens to me frequently. So the only thing left for me to do is blog about the boring week of school, work, and dance that I had. But, this is a pretty cool pic:)
We also went to one of the many BYU basketball games where they lost. We went with our good friends the Dutchers. I love being married and hanging out with our married friends, but it's funny because before I was married I was not okay with doing nothing on the weekend and now we do more nothing than we do something and I LOVE IT.
Thoughts? Comments?
