I know I've neglected here...we have not been too busy doing things more important, in fact theres been more snuggling in bed, more tv watching, and lounging in pjs all day.I attribute it to the cooler weather-it just screams stay inside and be lazy. I also ran a half marathon in Park City and it was awesome! Tyler took some videos and only got one pic. I will spare you the videos of me running, but here I am:)

It was snowing and I was so freezing cold, except when I was running. My time was 2:19, which I was pretty happy with!

Can you believe that she grew over 10 pounds in a year! She got 10 inches taller and her head swelled 5 inches. What a shrimp, I gained 30 lbs, got 10 inches wider and my feet swelled at least 2 times as much in only 9 months. She definitely has some catching up to do to her mom.
We've definitely decided to keep her and that there is no question she is the cutest babe around.

She rotates her ankles when she gets excited and crawls at supersonic speeds. She can almost stand up without using anything to balance and loves walking around with mom holding her hand. We thought for sure she was saying mama, but we think she hasn't quite associated it with me yet. She is for sure a mama's girl, but loves when daddy chases her and puts her on his shoulders. She loves her new toys she got for her birthday including some alphabet magnets (her favorite letter is "V". She always holds in no matter what other letters she's playing with). She is great at feeding herself with her tiny little hands and still loves baths and showers and reading books. We are so grateful her sleep schedule is so awesome too-12hour nights and two 1 1/2hr naps in the day. Sometimes I get lonely and can't wait for her to wake up and play.

She loves playing "catch" and brushing her teeth. Shakes her head and finger to say no and points at Jesus when we ask "Where's Jesus". if you haven't been able to come play with her recently, you should. She is a social butterfly, so fittingly we had a butterfly birthday party. Tyler and I argued about whether or not we should go big or small for the party, but we ultimately decided on just inviting Eliza's gparents and aunts and uncles. It was a good thing we planned "small" because with over 20 people I can't imagine how our apartment would've handled "big". We had a great time swimming and eating yummy chicken tacos and chips and salsa.

you can't see the 3rd tooth that is hiding beside her right front tooth, nor the bottom ones that well, but I just love her toothy grin and expression. I think I could fit her whole body in that gap! We love our little baby!

11 months is waaaay

too close to a year! Yet, here we are. another month older and slightly bigger. My baby had quite the month:

two new teeth (total of five; two up, three down)
crawling like a maniac
opening up everything with her teeth (still)
eating and loving all of my food
saying "mama". (How lucky am I?)
not anemic anymore
oh ya, did I mention she finally got over those nasty ear infections and teething and now she is blissfully only waking once during her 12 hour sleep? hallelujah.
if you ever feel like visiting, beware. The Floor Crunches. Eliza is obsessed with Rice Krispies. Whenever I bring the bag out of the cupboard she starts getting really excited and as soon as I put some in front of her she immediately starts grabbing handfuls and shoving them in her mouth. it really is adorable; but, they get all over the floor and I don't vacuum after every eating, ok?
among our favorite activities are reading, doing our nails, going on runs playing with our friends and watching SYTYCD:)

Stats: close enough to 15lbs and graduated to size 3 diapers.
And of course, her monthly pics. She would not stay still, was tired and grumpy, so here we go

well, there we go. only a couple more weeks until she turns one. Hopefully I'll be more on the ball one of these days. I think I am lagging more and more behind

Vacation--Wahoo

Man, I've just returned from the trip of a lifetime...just kidding. It was more of a trip that lasted a lifetime, or rather, we were gone 3 weeks. Take that however you'd like.
First stop:
Southern Colorado where the green grass grows and the river flows and the mosquitoes bite. (Actually, the mosquitoes weren't that bad). We had a marvelous time fishing (I caught a trout and called it a day. I've done enough fishing) hiking and playing games.

We also visited Manassa for the notorious 24th of July celebrations. Eliza loved riding on the little ponies. (Pony, she really only sat on one and it was for like 5 minutes).

I then met my dad and brothers in Alamosa and we flew back up to Colorado Springs so I could hang out with the fam while the girls and mom and dad went trekking. When they returned I did a quick Senior photo shoot of my sis.

Eliza slept in a dark closet and was back to her great schedule when we turned around and drove 14 hours to Missouri.

Yay for lake vacations! They truly are the best to relax, have fun, and hang out with the family. It was the whole shabang! (includ. lil' sis's bf). Eliza loved riding on the waverunners and in the tube. Ty and I tried our luck at wakeboarding (since we hadn't since we got married) and I of course schooled him. No really.

The only highlights were Ty getting a concussion and tying the rope up in the waverunner. Ok, maybe not highlights, LowLights. He's all better now. Except, I forgot to include this minor, yet disgusting detail, Ty and I tried to rid ourselves of some ingrown toenails (ewww I know) before the lake and mine got all better, but Ty had to get surgery on his last night and now he's limping around. Poor baby. I will not disgust you further with pics of that.

10 months baby

14.5 lbs 27.5" of goodness

As you can see she is starting to hold onto things while standing up. She is working on pulling herself up on things but hasn't quite got it. She did master going from stomach to back to sitting up and we are ALMOST crawling:) We are completely weaned and taking formula (HALLELUJAH), opening everything with her 3 teeth (almost 4), learning to make a tantrum, fake cry and grin. Lots of blahbering, sleeping 12 hours (usually) and trying new foods. Just tried muffins, eggs, steak taquitoes, cheese this week. Loves all kinds of fruits and grating carrots with her beaver teeth. Makes puffing noises and has the cutest piggy tails. Loves clapping, patting her stomach and legs and raising them up in the air (just like on Little Einsteins) Had a double ear infection (probably from so much swimming and a cold). Does not like Diet Coke, long meetings (as in church ones) and leaving grandma's house. Loves her daddy and going on long runs with mom.

Welp, maybe next time I'll actually post 11 months on time, oh wait, I'll be on vacation so you can count on me not.

We went to my cousin's wedding sans hubby this time because he was traveling. Our month has been crazy--Tyler was gone 3 of the 4 weeks, but as you saw from the previous posts, Eliza and I have been staying busy. I love hanging out with this girl. We went to the Provo Parade and hung out with gma and gpa. We were too tired for fireworks at night though, so we were lame and just went to bed! For the 24th of July we are planning to do some spectacular celebrating though.

She moved up and onto the curve in height and head circumference this month. Yay for our growing baby. Our new pediatrician, whom we love, was very positive about her growth. She is eating everything she can--loves especially eating what we are eating.

Our big news for month 9 is we FINALLY stopped those night-time wakings. we struggled for 3 nights with letting her cry it out, but now it's bliss! She goes down at 7:30 and sleeps until 6:30. Then naps at 8:30, 11:30, and 3:30. She is now a VERY happy baby and I am a VERY happy mommy. I can't believe we waited so long to break that habit of waking up twice. Oh, I know. Because it was the hardest thing to let my baby cry during the night. Especially when I could snuggle her up and we'd both fall asleep in minutes. However, I knew it couldn't last and was crossing my fingers she would break the habit herself. Wishful, ignorant, thinking. my resolve solidified when she would wake in the morning happy and seemed to not remember crying during the night and me not coming. Problem solved!

Now we just have to work with this whole No-Bottle-Taking thing. I think we will just stop nursing and go to bottle as soon as she is 1. it's almost there and i've pretty much limited her nursings to coincide with her napping and sleeping.

ok, well that's it I think on the baby front.

On the airplane after waking up at 4:00am, we were all a little tired. Eliza did pretty well...

We kept her entertained on the 5 1/2 hr flight by bringing her favorite toys:

After relaxing with some friends from high school we went to bed exhausted. The next day we headed out to the beach.

Where have we been you ask? Oh man. The past weeks since graduation have been crazzzy. Mostly they've included moving, unpacking, vacation, big baby milestones and Dad going back to work. I've taken a bizillion photos, which really isn't surprising, but thought I would at least spread them out between different posts. So this post will be focused on Eliza:
8 months wow. We have learned how to drink from a straw (yay! but still no bottles and no breastmilk--I have to share this story. I pumped to try and get her to take a bottle and she wouldn't drink from a bottle, so I thought, well maybe she'll drink from a sippy cup. Nope. Maybe warmer? Nope. Maybe from my cup? Nope. All I got was disgusted faces and spitting it out. Wha What? Does it taste so different from a cup then from my boob?)

ANY HELP ON GETTING AN 8 MONTH OLD TO DRINK FROM A BOTTLE?

I swear we can hear her say dada and i love you and woah. Probably not, but we like to think she's really communicating.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON BABY SIGNING?

Transition to a big crib has led to some pretty funny pics, before I got her new crib bumpers put in.

Liza and I got to go to Disneyland last week! We had a blast...

I am much better at taking photos than narrating, but I will try to tell about our trip through pics (I took probably 1000). oh, and poor daddy had to stay home to finish up classes:(

We've had quite a big month starting solids and loving baths...Rolling over and Sitting up...starting to teethe...hopefully that's what it is that keeps this runny nose returning...and of course, more worries from the docs about her small size.

She weighed in at 12lbs 11oz, which is a pound bigger than last month. Her doc said to keep it up whatever it was I was doing...I'll tell you why she's gaining weight so much, she's up every 2 hours in the night! It has been a hard 2 months. She has some residual fluid in her left ear that is causing her A LOT of discomfort, but because it's not infected, BYU won't recommend her to see an ENT for another month. I am at the end of my line here people. Thankfully, a blessed bro-in-law is an admin of an ENT group and got me some drops that are supposed to help clear it up. of course if it doesn't and it's the end of April, then chances are she will get tubes. At this point I really just want her sleeping again so we both aren't so miserable.

On a very positive note, she has adapted to solids quite well. We've tried all the #1 foods (almost) and of course she favors the bananas, apples, and pears to the squash, peas and carrots. However, she does eat them very well. We are starting 2 a dayers, and I am learning not to get her dressed until AFTER she eats breakfast. These baby foods are hard on her clothes!

I can't believe how sudden it is that she went from not rolling over or sitting up to doing both so well. It was like in a matter of days too. We are practicing getting up on our hands and knees and also rolling from back to stomach. I'm pretty sure it will be awhile before that happens. She is very square and has to work extra hard to turn her legs to the side. I blame the fact that she's the size of a 3 month old...

Another fun adventure this month was visiting our new little cousins/nieces. My sister and sister in law had their babies the same week. Little Elyse and Little Isla. We are so excited to have so many girl cousins the same age. If only we can keep up this same pattern...

Isla lives close by so we saw her in the hospital, but little Elyse lives in Idaho so we took a little weekend trip to Driggs to see her. I took some adorable baby pics, so without further ado, here are some pics of the babes and our vacay. (ok, mostly of my baby...but who's counting?)

There, all done I think with our update. I really can't believe Eliza is getting so big. We have a fun next couple of weeks...vacations and moving and graduation. Wish us luck!

We had a really fun weekend driving up to Driggs, ID to meet my family for a ski trip in the Tetons and to see our new baby niece, Elyse Katherine Angus. Born March 15. 7lbs 12 oz and 20" long. She's a cutie and definitely takes after her dad. I of course had to practice my photo-taking skills with a newborn shoot.

half a year...have I really been a mom for a half a year? This month has been quite an adventure:

first bout with constipation
first cold
rolling over
finding toes
baths in the big bath
more hair loss
moving up to 3-6mo clothes
continuing to sleep through the night
wary of strangers
first solids--ya she hates that--

Things we're working on:

rolling over from back to stomach
sitting up alone
eating solids

Now for some awesome stories:

We took Eliza to the instacare on Saturday (after celebrating aunty Elyse's baby shower) for her cold. We wanted to make sure she didn't have an ear infection. We went all the way to the Orem instacare (don't ask why) and when we were filling out our info we realized we didn't bring an insurance card. No, we are not rookies at this, it was because we were used to having Ty's work insurance and I did have THOSE cards in my wallet, it was the BYU ones I didn't have because you never have to show an ID card at BYU if you have their insurance. so of course we didn't have it. Then we tried calling every family member and the house several times to get someone to give us our ID number and it took over 20 mins to get someone to answer! talk about annoying. Well, we were able to get it and got her in and she was fine. no infection.

At the doctor today the doc was over an hour behind (there went my plans to have her home in time for her nap) and then she wanted some x-rays. Eliza was beyond her max, but we made it home and she got some food and sleep and is feeling much better. Here are her stats:

11 lbs 13 oz and 24.25"

If you are wondering if that is not normal, they you would be correct. Eliza fell below her curve of about the 1st %. I know doctors are concered about "normalcy" and the whole percentile thing, but Eliza is happy and I feed her when she's hungry (and I try to feed her more too). Of course the doc suggested I supplement with formula like they suggested last time, but I'm telling you, she won't have it. The doc also had me check my breast milk for fat content. whawhat? So I pumped and let it separate and what do you know, CREAM. I don't think the problem is in my milk. I have a HAPPY baby. I think it is that my baby is a SLOW grower and she is doing just fine. We have started to introduce some solids--namely rice--and she doesn't like it. haha. We will start on some peas and carrots and squash in the next couple of weeks and see how she does. I know it takes awhile for them to get used to and like solid foods.

The doc also ordered some x-rays for her hips since they were a little asymmetrical. We'll see what she says when she gets them back.

We found an apartment. let me repeat WE FOUND AN APARTMENT. For those who didn't know we were looking...Ty graduates in April and we need to be closer to downtown for when he starts his job May 17th. We spent the past couple weekends scouring all the apt complexes we could in a day and found one that had exactly what we were looking for:

24hr fitness
pool and spa
covered parking and garages
quiet and safe
good deal $$$
first floor walk-in
east facing (if possible)
right by the interstate
2 bed/2 bath

Sometimes I lay at night thinking of where our furniture is going to go in our new apt. (this is what happens when you live at someone else's house for 3 years:))

I finished my photoshop class and LOVED IT! I'm thinking of holding a class for any who are interested in knowing a few things--let me know if you'd like that

We booked our flights to Florida for family vacay/graduation in May. Thankfully we can get all moved in before we go. I can't wait to take Eliza swimming!

Does anyone else still have a hard time writing 2011? I keep writing 2010...

Anyway, on to the subject of this post, Valentine's Day! I read on a friend's blog that for her, Vday was always a family affair rather than a lovers and I like that idea. Not that I don't like being showered with attention from Hubby; it's just that I like the thought of my kids growing up celebrating love on Valentines day and loving it instead of dreading it if they don't have a supposed beau...

I did get some great attention though:) Tyler of course spared no expense, which those of you who know him may wonder if he's even capable of doing this...to which I reply, YES. We went to dinner, I got a cute necklace and flowers, (both my favorites)

and of course chocolate and an infamous Tyler Poem. (I would include an example of his genius this year, but I fear you may start gagging from love overdose haha). I made Tyler a pillow....
I saw this cute pillow on etsy and wanted it...but then I saw the price tag

$99!!! Can you even believe that? So I of course made my own.

I think it turned out great.

I can't believe my baby's 5 months!! She's weighing in at about 11 1/2lbs and is almost out of her 3month clothes. We have accomplished so much this month--can't believe she is growing so fast--We are sleeping through the night now (sometimes even 10hrs plus!...ok, only once that happened so far) and napping is soo much better. We even moved bedtime up to 8pm. No binky still, but we've learned how to put ourself to sleep (after a couple sad nights of mommy ignorning baby's cries), found our tongue and play with our ears and headbands:) Tummy time is much more enjoyable and bath time is still the bomb! We've tried sucking on apples and carrots and ice and love it! Also, a little bit of water from a straw is fun too.We keep our toes painted matching colors and love watching HGTV and NCIS. We've started working out with a friend every other day down at the BYU indoor track and it's fun to see all the other determined mommies with their strollers getting some exercise. With the cold weather what else could we do? We still turn out about 100 pictures per week...haha and go support Daddy playing basketball 3 times a week. With so much sleeping going on, mom has time to sew and plan some baby showers and get ready to sand/stain a dining room table. (WIP)
Mom and Dad have been to see some movies and are currently in the "where are we going to live when Dad graduates" process. It's great. Anyone live in Salt Lake County have any apartment suggestions?
Well, since baby is sleeping, better get some laundry done...

I can't believe it's been so long since I last posted, I mean I still had a Christmas background! Goodness, well Tyler has started back at school and got a research position where he works 10 hrs a week. I am so glad to have a little money coming in. I am still teaching dance, but only once a week and I'm doing a little sewing on the side, but so far that hasn't moved very fast...We just need to hang on until May when Tyler starts back up at Ernst and Young.

Some fun stuff we've been up to:

Tyler is coaching Brennan's Jr Jazz basketball team named the Battle Stags

Tyler is also playing intramural bball at BYU; a bunch of his buddies made up a team of ISYS master's guys--all married and most with kids:) Last night was their first game and thankfully they dominated of course since they have more wisdom and prowess being all in their late 20s. They beat a freshman team. Eliza was a great cheerleader

I have signed up to take a photoshop class...heavens knows I need it:) As I was taking these photos I got so excited thinking about what I could possibly do. I have a very willing model:)

On the flip side of cool things that have gone on, I got a bad bad cold on Monday--sneezy, coughy, sore throat--Thankfully it was only a couple days, due to a great blessing and good old medicine. Eliza rewarded us with 3 nights this week of 8hr stretches at night. Just when I think it's a pattern that will continue she goes only 5. haha. But I really can't complain because she usually sleeps in until 10 or 10:30. During her bath last night I tried to get rid of her cradle cap using some olive oil(has anyone else heard of this strategy?) and today her hair is nice and stringy. (of course I washed it after!) It seemed to have worked a little. She also has these rough patches of skin on her calves, elbows and shoulders that appear to be excema...I'm using eucerin and aquafor and hoping that it helps since treatment for excema is really expensive. Maybe when we have good insurance again I can go for that treatment (dang it BYU).

Also question, did anyone else get monthly visits while nursing?

As you can see, she's a HAPPY BABY! we are still working on getting the whole bed/nap schedule down...but we dedicated Christmas break to it and we have figured out she likes to sleep from 9pm-2am or 3am, then utnil 6am and then until 9am with a nap at 10am-11am, 2pm, and 5pm. Those are rough estimates-- we are also working on having her put herself to sleep--today was the first day we put her in her crib and walked away for nap time and the first nap she went down without a fuss and the second one she cried for like 10 mins but then went to sleep. Halleluiah. This is great for us because then we won't have to spend forever helping her to fall asleep and then having her wake up and starting all over again. For the record however, she really is a good sleeper and rarely fusses at all unless she's hungry or tired. I've been really frustrated that she stopped taking a binky, even though she never was very good at taking one, so this is big for her to learn to self-soothe to sleep without anything (because I can't be the paci all the time)

Ok, well enough on the baby log...thanks everyone for your input on techniques on helping baby sleep well...

So you know how sometimes as a mom you feel pressured to be "perfect?" or at least for everyone to think it? Ok, so maybe it's just me feeling like I will mess Eliza up if I don't get her schedule "just right". Lately I have been struggling with her daytime napping. She is fighting it like crazy, but I know she is tired because she is cranky. When she sleeps well she is happy and playful and I can do whatever while she sits and plays. Tyler can get her to sleep no problem, but everytime I try to rock her, she wants to eat. Help! I was reading Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child and she says that if you catch the timing right then your baby won't cry and will go right to sleep. I have yet to catch that timing. Also, she says babies shouldn't be awake for more than two hours at a time. I have really watched Eliza and noticed that she does start getting tired about 1 1/2hrs after being awake, but everytime I try to help her fall asleep she cries and puts up a fit. I know every baby isn't by the book, but I am feeling so helpless, like we are stuck in this back and forth. Once I finally get her down to nap she only stays alseep for like 30-40 minutes. What are some tricks to getting Eliza down without such a fight?

Parents Choice brand and I was VERRrY skeptical at first. She hasn't had one blow out despite their apparent thinness and low quality. Yay for $0.11 diapers that work:)

3 Months

I had the hardest time getting a shot where her fists weren't in her mouth. At about 9 1/2lbs my baby is still a wee little thing. But she's growing and developing like a normal 3 month old! We are working on getting our daytime nap routine down and I am reading up on how to help her be the healthiest sleeper. She has the cutest giggle and loves when I blow on her tummy.

Even though she's not a fan of tummy time, she can hold her head up a lot more and I'm so proud of her. I hate doing tummy time because she gets all mad after like 30 seconds, so we really don't do it very often. I wish I had a good picture, but this is usually what she looks like

She loves riding in her carseat thank goodness, except when she's hungry, but even then if I sing really loudly she will quiet down and sometimes go back to sleep

and Christmas is by far my favorite time of year! I love getting all of my Christmas shopping done early so that I can enjoy the festivities that only happen once a year; i.e. The Nutcracker, Lights at Temple Square, Ornament Exchanges, etc.
This year, I used the awesome website Shutterfly to help make my shopping even easier and more effective than ever! I made the cutest photo book of pictures featuring Eliza and am sending it to my mom...shhh don't tell! Also, since it was my first purchase, I got 50 free 4x6 prints! I used this credit to print a bunch of prints for little Eliza's baby book. They are such a great quality and you definitely can't pass up free:)

I think their holiday collection is SOOO cute and I can't wait to send out a Christmas card. Using their website is very easy and I love that you so much of the design comes from you. All they do is lay the groundwork and you go from there.

To shop or not to shop...that is the question.

Actually it's really not. The answer is always yes to shopping.
Of course since Tyler is technically unemployed and the whole living with the parents thing is going on right now, the whole shopping thing is scaled down.

Nevertheless, this was an AWESOME shopping day. I'm the kind of person who already has their Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving...(yes I am completely done...wrapping them all up this week so they can sit under the tree all gorgeous all of december!)...so Black Friday for me isn't about scoring deals for stocking stuffers or whatnot. This year I only had one thing on my list: a wireless router and of course various things for my mom (like $6 sandwich makers! handy little suckers that are only sold around Christmas time) haha funny enough that was the one thing Tyler suggested we get since we will need one when we get out on our own. Not to mention that normal price is well over $50 normally. So the score at $29 was worth getting up at 7am. Yes, 7am. That is VERRRY early for me, Eliza and I like to snooze until 10 or 10:30:)

Speaking of which, my baby is 3 months on Tuesday! that's in 2 short days and you can bet I'll have some pics to put up. I don't think she has changed that much and I think she is slowing down a little in her weight gain. Probably because she's sleeping through the night...Wait, in case you missed that

She's Sleeping Through the Night!

from 10:30-6:30 and then I feed her and put her back by 6:45 and she sleeps until 10:15 usually. Wow, what a difference our life has been! I thought for sure since she was so little it would take longer, but at about 2 1/2 months her 6 hour stints turned into 7 or 8 and it was more consistent. I love it!

We spent Thanksgiving with my family in Colorado and had a blast. It was one of our best visits yet! Turkey day was great all grateful and stuff and we ate all those traditional dishes (something when I host thanksgiving I won't do btw) We took the traditional family photo, went to go see a movie (sold out though:() watched football and played games. We enjoyed the pleasantly surprising warm weather, relatively, and were quite sad to leave. Eliza did great on her first little airplane ride. I am so grateful she is such a great baby.

The week before we thought we were going to have to buy a new laptop for Tyler because it unexpectedly stopped working, something we really didn't want to have to cough up funds for right now, but what-do-ya-know, my resourceful hubby looked up possible solutions and bought a new part for only $12. Turns out all the screen needed was a new inverter. Awesome. Now our dinosaur will last another couple months, at least until we start getting an income again.

Ok, well that's another little snapshot of what life in the Rasmussen household has been like. Pics to come later this week of our little buttons!

can't believe it

My baby is growing!! She has transitioned into size 0-3 month clothes and size 1 diapers!! anyone else feel like these are the hardest times for mom because it is reality staring in your face--she won't stay little forever. We had an FHE a couple weeks ago and Aunt Jamie and Uncle Ralph's and Eliza met little Celia Rasmussen for the first time:

Last weekend my bffff and old roommate Grace came and visited Eliza for the first time also. We did lots of fun things, but somehow these are the only pictures I snapped. Probably because we were too busy making hair clips, eating yummy food and chatting.

I should have sucked my stomach in more! UGH. I can't wait until that little pooch is gone, which for you non-believers out there, it WILL BE. That is a work in progress and although it is a major concern, I know it won't happen overnight.

We've had a slew of visitors lately, maybe that's why I'm soo exhausted, or it's because I worked like crazy to get all my Christmas shopping done (DONE YESTERDAY BTW), or because Eliza started sleeping through the night (HALLELUIA!!!!!) and my body is in recovery mode from the last 2 1/2 months of deprivation. well my baby is 2 months old now! at her 2 month check up she weighed 8lbs 14oz and was 21" long. She's still in the <5%, but she's gained 3 lbs since birth, which to me makes her seem like a chunk:) haha. Here is her adorable 2 month picture

We also captured her trying to tell us what wonderful parents we are and how she loves us so much. I've included the video for your viewing pleasure. She is getting better at sleeping at night, I can feed her and put her right back to bed. Experts say babies can start to sleep through the night once they're 10 lbs. Come on Eliza, GROW!!! I am adjusting to getting up two or three times, but I am excited for those uninterrupted stretches of 6+ hours.

Can you believe it??

This month has been a blur! We are getting a routine down and life is great! She eats every 3 hours almost on the dot with an occasional 4 hour stretch...we love when those are at night:) We learned that nighttime goes so much better when we keep her up for 2-3 hours right before her last feeding before we go to sleep around 11:30pm, then she will eat and go right back to sleep, which helps me out a lot. Tyler helps on the weekends, putting her back to sleep during the night so I only have to keep my eyes open long enough to make sure she latches correctly. No matter how well she does during the night though I am still exhausted it seems. I understand now why parents are so much tired because I never get any stretch of sleep longer than 3 hours ever! I know that this won't last forever, but for now it's the most difficult thing I've done.
We go on walks together and my little girl LOVES her stroller

it was kind of chilly today when we went out but she stayed asleep the whole walk from our house to the library and then to Smiths and back home again. (round trip 4 miles! I am trying to work back up to running, but walking is tiring for now)
So far Eliza has gone with us to Guru's, Five Guys, La Jolla Groves, Golden Corral and Taco Bell. Other than that we basically stay at home.
She weighs upwards of 7lbs and is pushing 21" and has such a cute double chin. Her baby acne is almost gone and her hair is growing so fast.
Well there is a little update on our adorable piece of heaven!

That would definitely be me. I think it has to do with the awesome good versus evil struggles and maybe a little bit to do with the fact that I dream a lot about getting in fights...I just finished Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth series and found it to be totally engrossing. I would disappear in my own little world of the main characters. Interestingly enough, his books focus more on philosophical discussions amongst the fighting than on anything else. The main thought in these books is that you decide how you live and anyone who gives up that choice is living like a slave. If you don't fight for life you are embracing death and if you don't fight evil you are embracing evil. From Wikipedia: "Goodkind believes that using the fantasy genre allows him to better tell his stories and better convey the human themes and emotions that he desires to share with the reader. Regardless of the genre of his novels, Goodkind states his main goal in writing is to inspire." I was definitely inspired by his books, all 12 of them.

Dave Ramsey's The Total Money Makeover

Even though we aren't in debt, Tyler and I read this book and thought it was AWESOME. I don't know if any of you listen to the Dave Ramsey Show on talk radio or whatever, but we really like his approach. We got a great plan of what we want to do with our money for the next couple years--his mantra is if you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else! how true is that!
He takes people through 7 Baby Steps:
1. Save $1000 cash as a starter emergency fund
2. Debt snowball
3. Finish emergency fund ($5000-10,000)
4. Invest 15 percent of your income in retirement
5. Save for college
6.Pay off your home mortgage
7. Build wealth

The part that we took away was on investing in retirement. He gave a really easy breakdown of how to easily invest for retirement:
"Invest 15 percent of before-tax gross income annually toward retirement...when calculating your 15 percent, don't include company matching...invest 25% in growth and income funds, 25% in growth funds, 25% in International funds, 25% Aggressive growth funds."
"Always start where you have a match. When your company will give you free money, take it...you should next fund Roth IRAs."

I also really loved that he says giving is the biggest reward! I totally agree. Tyler and I always find that we have more when we give more. His three purposes for building wealth are to have fun, invest and give.

If you haven't read this book yet GO READ IT! it is totally worth the couple of weeks waiting on the library hold list...even if you and your spouse don't have any money problems it is a great read.

As much as I adore little Eliza and as much as I know you all do too...this is going to be a post about me. Tyler and I make it a habit to set a bunch of goals each year on our anniversary--relationship, physical, spiritual, academic, etc. This year, since I knew I'd have more at home time on my hands with no work or school, I made the goal to read all the classic books that I hadn't read already.
The hardest part about this goal is that there are multiple opinions about which books make the "classics" list. I decided to go with the one from the Provo Library since that is where I will get most of the books:) I was surprised that I hadn't read more of them, partly I guess because I'm not counting it read if I only read portions of it in school or if I can't remember it well enough. I decided I would return and report somewhere about my readings, and maybe encourage others of you to do the same because there is so much to learn from these books about society and history and the nature of people.

A lot of people are having babies--I'm sure you have read plenty of birth stories and they are all kind of the same...if they aren't yours, they aren't that interesting:) However, I know there are some of you that would want to know our story, so I'll make it concise and leave out all the gory parts...haha, just kidding, about leaving out the gory parts...

I was induced August 31 at noon at Timpanogos Hospital and had Eliza at 5:59pm. It was an easy labor, after the epidural, and an easy delivery (out she came after 3 pushes!) That's what you get when you have a 5lb 9oz baby with a tiny head! I had an abruption of my placenta (it started coming separated from the uterine wall) and they figured that's why she stopped growing, which is why I was induced.

The next day she was sounding really congested, so the nurses tried to suction her nose but wouldn't you know those little blue bulb syringes are too big to stick in her nose! She started to aspirate and they had a scare until they used a preemie catheter to stick in her nose and suction with a syringe the fluid out. Tyler was with her watching and I was nervous because my biggest fear about her being so little was how she would breathe. Thankfully they pumped a lot of fluid out of her stomach and she hasn't had congestion problems since.

So now, on to the good stuff...pictures:)

Here I am as we are walking out the door to the hospital last Tuesday. Inductions are nice because you have time to do your hair:)

Eliza can't even fit in Newborn sized clothes! Here I've prepared and tried to be ready and I have no clothes that fit her! Little sleepers are the funniest because her legs end up together in one leg and her arms right up under her chin and not in the sleeves. The torsos swallow her up! Thank goodness she has some hair bows though...
